Tattooing remains a vital part of Bake’s creative practice—an intimate, collaborative ritual grounded in trust, intention, and transformation. While currently working across various projects and mediums, he continues to take on a select number of tattoo projects each year. These are typically large-scale, long-term pieces for committed collectors who connect with his visual language and intuitive approach.

Working from a private studio in Hout Bay, Bake specializes in both black & grey and color realism, as well as illustrative tattooing. His style is adaptive and process-led, shaped by the subject matter, energy, and form of each project.

Bake is particularly inspired by conceptual pieces—especially those that carry a South African slant or personal narrative. He approaches each project as a visual dialogue, unveiling what already exists within. His goal is to create timeless compositions that feel like they belong to the body—designs that complement and evolve with the living form.

Booking & Consultations

All tattoo requests begin with an email outlining your concept, references, and the area of the body you’d like tattooed. I only take on projects where there is creative alignment, so a virtual consultation is required before confirming any bookings.

This allows us to explore the vision, refine the direction, and ensure we’re the right fit for a collaborative process.

Confirmed bookings require a non-refundable deposit. Due to the scale of many of these projects, appointments are scheduled in phases, with flexibility built in to accommodate life.

The Studio

The Studio

Bake works out of a private studio and creative space in Hout Bay, Cape Town, where he tattoos selectively while pursuing ongoing fine art and collaborative projects. The studio is peaceful and intentionally low-key—designed to offer privacy, comfort, and an open flow of creative collaboration between artist and client.

It’s a space where intention is valued, individuality is honored, and creative expression is nurtured. The slower pace allows for a more considered process, where each tattoo becomes part of a larger journey—both yours and Bake’s.

Tattooing & Style

Bake specializes in classical black and grey realism and illustrative color work, drawing influence from classical art, spiritual iconography, folklore, and natural forms. His tattooing process is intuitive and personalized—each piece designed to harmonize with the flow and form of the body.

The aim is to craft compositions that look as though they were always meant to be there—tattoos that move with the body, breathe with it, and belong to it. Whether spiritually charged, emotionally resonant, or simply aesthetically powerful, the projects Bake chooses to work on share one thing in common: creative trust and meaningful intention.

Clients are encouraged to bring a vision, an idea, or a feeling—and together, through a collaborative process of concept, reference, and design, a singular piece of body art is revealed. Bake values depth and clarity of concept, but equally enjoys purely aesthetic explorations, provided there’s opportunity for artistic and technical challenge.

Above all, he is committed to quality, craftsmanship, and a timeless approach to tattooing.

Process

Process

(1)

Concept

Start with the story. Whether literal or symbolic, think about the intention behind the tattoo. What is it marking? What is it saying—or not saying? From there, we can begin shaping a conceptual direction.

(2)

Reference

Once there is clarity on concept, we collect and refine visual references together. This becomes a springboard for developing the visual language of the tattoo.

(3)

Design

Designing the tattoo is a collaborative process, grounded in the form and flow of the body. Placement, movement, and proportion always inform the final composition. Details such as style and technique are refined during consultation, and no two pieces are ever the same.

(4)

Journey

Each tattoo unfolds over time. Working together across multiple sessions, we bring the vision to life with patience, care, and a shared commitment to excellence. The tattoo becomes part of your story—and a reflection of Bake’s.
